LAHORE: After Peshawar Zalmi’s defeat in their opening match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 against Quetta Gladiators, captain Babar Azam took responsibility for the team’s performance and assured fans of improvement in upcoming matches.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Azam acknowledged areas where the team could improve, citing the absence of a spinner and subpar performance in the initial overs and death over as areas of concern. Despite these challenges, he highlighted the team’s strong start and emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving situation during the game.
Praising young bowler Mohammad Zeeshan, Babar Azam expressed confidence in Zeeshan’s abilities, stating that he will improve with more opportunities to play. Regarding the decision to field after winning the toss, Azam remarked on the favorable pitch conditions and weather that influenced the team’s strategy.

He credited Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel for their batting contributions, reiterating that the bowling decision was justified. Emphasizing the importance of disciplined bowling, Babar said, “Mature bowling is crucial. We need to stick to the plan and execute well.”
He admitted that sending Asif Ali earlier was a situational decision, but acknowledged the need for more runs.
Ending on a positive note, Babar assured fans, “Playing in front of our home crowd is always motivating. We will strive to improve and return stronger in the next matches.”
