DUBAI: England’s Joe Root has regained the top batsman position in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after an impressive series against the West Indies.
With 291 runs in three matches, including a decisive 87 in the final Test in Birmingham, Root overtook New Zealand’s Kane Williamson to regain the No.1 spot he last held a year ago.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Babar Azam and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell are now tied for third with 768 points, while Australia’s Steve Smith and India’s Rohit Sharma hold the fifth and sixth positions. England’s Harry Brook dropped four places to seventh due to a less impressive run.
In the Test bowlers’ rankings, England captain Ben Stokes climbed four places to 30th thanks to his role as an all-rounder. Teammates Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson also saw improvements, moving to 20th and 46th respectively, reflecting their strong bowling performances.
For the Test all-rounders, Stokes moved up to number six and Chris Woakes moved up to number nine. Ravindra Jadeja remains the highest rated all-rounder by a significant margin.
In the T20I batting rankings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have made remarkable progress, with Jaiswal moving up to fourth and Gill reaching a career-high 21st. This moved Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to fifth and sixth positions.
In the T20I bowlers’ rankings, Ravi Bishnoi jumped eight places to re-enter the top 10. Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj also improved, while Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana rose to 77th.
Australia’s Marcus Stoinis returned to the No.1 position in the T20I all-rounders rankings, overtaking Waninda Hasaranga, who slipped to joint third.
