LAHORE: Pakistan’s Babar Azam will be the most successful captain in the history of T20I cricket. Babar needs one more win to regain composure and overtake Uganda’s Brian Masaba. With Pakistan’s next assignment against Ireland, Babar is likely to break the record in the three-match series starting on May 10.
Babar is coming up in another crucial season which will help India get ahead of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in T20I cricket. Babar currently has 3,823 runs in T20I cricket and is the third highest run-getter in the shortest format of the game.
Pakistan will play a total of seven T20Is against Ireland and England this month, giving Babara a great chance to catch up with India.
Babar needs just 151 runs to equal Sharma’s feat, while 215 runs will overtake Kohli. This morning the Pakistani team left for Dublin, Ireland and from Lahore to Dubai.
Pakistan team will play three T20Is in Ireland followed by four matches in England. After the England tour, Pakistan will travel to the USA to compete in the T20 World Cup.
The 18-man squad announced for the Ireland and England T20Is will be reduced to 15 players for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the first T20I against England on May 22.
Additionally, Babar is now tied with Australia’s Aaron Finch for the most T20Is in his country’s history with 76 matches. When Pakistan take on Ireland on May 10, Babar will overtake Finch in most of the T20s for his country.
Batar is on course to become the first Pakistani player to score 4,000 runs in T20I cricket on the battlefield. With 3,823 runs to his name, he is behind only Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Babar sees the series against Ireland as an opportunity to close the gap on Kohli’s record, which he needs just 215 runs to surpass. This series holds a lot of significance for Babar as he aims to eclipse the Indian batting maestro and make his name in the annals of cricket history.
Babar wants to go through several stages. Just one win will make him the most successful T20I captain, equaling Uganda’s Brian Masaba’s record of 44 wins as a captain. Babar now has 44 wins as captain with Masaba.
