LAHORE: PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced some drastic measures to address the recent poor performance of the national cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2024, co-hosted by USA and West Indies.
Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Nahvi stressed the responsibility of the selection committee and laid down new criteria for selecting players based on domestic cricket performance.
It was also agreed that the members of the selection committee who made the wrong decision or were selected will be held accountable.
The PCB chairman further said that international players who are not involved in domestic cricket will be banned from joining the national team. While no decision has yet been taken on Babar Azam’s captaincy, Naqvi said the former cricketer will be involved in the decision-making process.
He also acknowledged past mistakes and stressed the importance of involving former experienced players in making future decisions.
Naqvi issued a stern warning to cricket fans, saying any wrongdoing against Pakistani cricket domestically or internationally would lead to serious consequences.
Haris revealed that Rauf and his alleged wrongdoers have been reported to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Discussing the players’ commitment to domestic cricket, Naqvi said national duty should come first. It has informed that players seeking No Objection Certificate (NOC) to participate in foreign leagues before the trial phase will not be granted this permission.
Incidentally, Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan have asked for NOC for the GT20 league.
Naqvi said only players who meet the fitness standards will be given central contracts. He assured that everyone will get their share in the central contract, which will be examined. Both domestic and international cricketers have to undergo fitness tests with exceptions.
Various fitness assessments are mandatory, including the Yo-Yo test.
