LAHORE: Pakistan captain Babar Azam, pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan are unlikely to get a no-objection certificate (NOC) to participate in the upcoming Global T20 Canada league, sources said on Friday.
Insiders revealed that the players will not receive a NOV, even though the Canadian league, which runs from July 25 to August 11, does not clash with any series.
This is because players of all formats will not be issued a certificate as per policy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not keen on this due to a busy international schedule, sources said.
This development comes days after the cricket body decided not to grant NOC to fast bowler Naseem Shah to play The Hundred cricket league as he is an all format player.
However, Global T20 Canada is yet to receive approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to several issues, sources said.
They added that the NOV of players will be formally decided only after the league gets approval.
Pacer Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz, Asif Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed are also contracted in Global T20 Canada.
Earlier this week, the PCB said it will work out a technical process for issuing NOCs to players and those who meet the requirements will be granted NOCs.
“Players will be promoted based on their fitness and performance. There is no place for players who do not meet the criteria. There will also be no compromise on discipline,” PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said.
