DHAKA: A Bangladesh Cricket Board official said they have approached the government to provide them with a security adviser for their upcoming tour to Pakistan.
Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to Pakistan on August 17 for a two-match Test series as part of the ICC Test Championship. The matches will be held in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25 and Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
“Look it’s up to them (Pakistan) to provide security and we are going there because they assure us that we are providing state level security and after they assured us the tour was fixed,” the chairman of cricket operations told reporters on Wednesday BCB Jalal Yunus.
He pointed out that similar assurances were given during the Asia Cup when Bangladesh visited Pakistan.
“I think you saw in the Asia Cup that the Bangladesh team traveled to Pakistan and they gave us security at the state level and we agreed to go on this tour because they gave us that,” he said.
Yunus pointed out that other international teams have recently visited Pakistan and expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements. He confirmed that the tour was confirmed after receiving assurances from the Pakistani authorities.
“You could see recently that some international teams have also visited [Pakistan] and they are quite happy with the security they have provided,” he said.
Despite their concerns, he confirmed that the tour had been confirmed after receiving assurances from the Pakistani authorities.
“We are also very concerned about security, but after knowing everything and after getting assurances from them about security, we fixed the tour,” he said.
In addition to government assurances, BCB has requested a security consultant to maintain continuous communication on security issues throughout the tour.
“At the same time, we have requested the government to provide us with a security consultant during the tour who will constantly communicate with them on security issues,” he said.
Jalal noted that the players have no objection to the upcoming tour of Pakistan.
