WASHINGTON – Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu said Tuesday that US President Joe Biden has asked Pakistan for $101 million in aid to support democracy and human rights in the country.
Lu said the funds would be used to combat rising terrorism, support ongoing economic reforms and forgive debts owed to the current government.
He said this at a briefing on Pakistan and Afghanistan in the US House of Representatives.
During the briefing, Lu expressed concern about the situation of women and minority groups in Afghanistan and stressed that relations with the Taliban government cannot be normalized until the human rights of Afghan citizens are protected.
It must be remembered that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has accused Donald Lu of toppling his government in 2022.
