RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Monday called for action against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi and demanded an operation for failing to conduct fair elections.
He was responding to Naqvi’s speech the day before, saying there would be big changes in the national team after their six-run defeat to India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The PCB chief said a “major operation” was now required. “At first I believed that a small operation would be enough, but after this poor job it became clear that a major overhaul was needed.
In an informal chat with reporters in the Adiala Jail courtroom today, Khan criticized the authorities and highlighted ongoing security concerns. “Our soldiers were martyred, looting happened in Islamabad, but it was ignored,” Khan said.
He further added, “Mohsin Naqvi is the greatest expert of favoritism.”
Khan was accused of trying to silence him and cover up the election fraud and criticized the Chief Election Commissioner for monitoring the fraud. He also condemned the crackdown on PTI members across Punjab, saying meetings were disrupted and party members arrested where they held meetings.
Focusing on personal grievances, Khan spoke about the raid on the residence of PTI leader Shibli Faraz and urged the party to prepare for protests across the country.
The former prime minister announced plans for the director of prisons, IG prisons and interior colonels to limit contact with families, lawyers and political leaders to 30 minutes and no more than six people.
The former prime minister complained that he was deprived of benefits similar to the imprisonment of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari.
When asked about the presence of PML-N MNA’s lawyer Aqeel Malik in the courtroom, the PTI leader replied that the PML-N and PTI MNA should visit the jail.
The journalist then questioned the relevance of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report to the current situation, before prison officials asked the media to leave the courtroom, consulting with his lawyer Intazar Hussain Panjutha.
