ISLAMABAD: Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib, Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), stressed Friday that the BISP is a global pioneer in social protection programs.
Addressing a press conference, the chairman remarked that BISP serves 9.3 million people in a dignified manner by providing compassionate financial assistance. Dr. Saqib stated that BISP’s transparency and effectiveness have been recognized by its International Development Partners, thanks to the program’s reliable database and robust payment process.
Chairperson BISP stated that, in a short period of time, BISP, in conjunction with partner organizations and stakeholders, launched a number of new projects.
To address issues highlighted during the distribution of quarterly cash under the sponsorship program, when women complained about not receiving the whole amount, the BISP implemented a new banking system for payments.
Initially managed by only two banks, the country is now divided into 15 clusters, with more than eight institutions tasked with reducing deduction complaints.
Dr. Saqib explained that due to rising inflation, BISP has increased the quarterly payment of Benazir Kafaalat by Rs. 1750, resulting in eligible women getting Rs. 10,500 every quarter rather than Rs. 8,750. Furthermore, the amounts for Taleemi Wazaif and Nashonuma have been enhanced by Rs. 500 each. Taleemi Wazaif helps 8.3 million youngsters attend school.
Chairperson BISP also announced the establishment of a sophisticated call center in conjunction with the National Telecommunication Corporation, aimed at giving accurate information about BISP and rapidly addressing issues.
Individuals can contact the call center at 080026477 to file concerns or learn more about the initiative.
Dr. Saqib told that the Benazir Income Support Program has implemented a ‘Saving Scheme’ to encourage 150,000 users to save.
BISP will contribute an additional 40% of gross savings each quarter. Women are receiving digital and financial literacy training, and a voucher plan is in place to provide technical training to youngsters from low-income families.
Chairperson BISP announced the launch of Mobile Registration Vehicles for distant parts of Sindh and Balochistan, with plans to deliver stipends via these vehicles in the future.
Model offices at the tehsil level have been built to provide comprehensive services such as dynamic surveys, program registration, money disbursement, Nashonuma grants, and timely settlement of bank or NADRA-related difficulties.
Dr. Saqib underlined the need to integrate point-of-sale agents and BISP workers in mosques to maintain payment system openness, with the goal of drastically reducing deduction complaints.
An endowment fund is being formed to ensure BISP’s financial stability, with the proceeds going to philanthropic causes. Civil society organizations interested in BISP programs will work together to improve services for those in need.
Dr. Saqib highlighted that the BISP not only gives cash assistance, but also signifies love and concern for the underprivileged members of society.
He underlined the issues that BISP faces, notably the issue of scams via false messages or social media accounts, and advised the public to only trust communications from 8171 and to double-check information on the official BISP website and social media pages.
