Islamabad : A high-level meeting was chaired by Dr. Amjad Saqib, the chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), to assess the status of the program’s major initiatives, such as the enrollment of widows, the inclusion of adolescents in Nashonuma, the Hybrid Social Protection Scheme, and Benazir Social Protection Accounts.
Dr. Amjad Saqib stressed BISP’s dedication to helping the underprivileged throughout the conference. In addition to highlighting digital literacy and financial inclusion, he emphasized the significance of opening bank accounts for underprivileged women.
During the meeting, Amer Ali Ahmad, the Secretary of BISP, gave a thorough rundown of the subjects on the agenda. The subjects covered were also reported to Chairperson Dr. Amjad Saqib by the Director Generals (DGs) of different wings.
The goal of opening 9,800 Benazir Social Protection Accounts has been successfully met, according to DG NSER/CCT Naveed Akbar, who addressed the meeting on the subject. In addition, 6,700 applications for the BISP Saving Scheme were received. 8,900 widows have had their data identified. The Financial Literacy initiative, which benefited 4,000 underprivileged women across 13 districts, has been effectively concluded.
In order to inform impoverished women about Social Protection Accounts and prioritize finding those who already have bank accounts, Dr. Amjad Saqib recommended field offices to undergo training. By the end of January, he directed officials to make sure that accounts opened under the Financial Literacy program, the BISP Saving Scheme, and the Benazir Social Protection Accounts are operationalized.
Dr. Muhammad Tahir Noor, Addl. Secretary of BISP, DG Finance Wasim Ahmad, and DG OM Dr. Asim Ijaz were present at the meeting; BISP zonal director generals also participated electronically.
