Lahore: The 7th WOW – Women of the World Festival will take place at the Alhamra Arts Council in Lahore on Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, 2024, thanks to the British Council Pakistan. This is the festival’s inaugural year in Lahore, and it’s being organized in association with Olomopolo Media, UNFPA, Shan Foods, Standard Chartered, and ECDI Pakistan. The public is welcome to attend the free festival.
The WOW festival’s schedule features unique talks, workshops, movie screenings, immersive performances, lively marketplaces, and kid-friendly puppet shows and movies. Day one features an extensive schedule of events, featuring well-known musicians Natasha Noorani and Eva B. Amna will be among a group of strong women performing in the last act.
This year’s festival, which is being held in collaboration with the WOW Foundation, has the theme Sakhiyan (Friends), which is a tribute to female companionship and the ability to be oneself in a place where one can rediscover oneself. As this friendship develops in real life and online, it is examined and honored as it weaves itself into the fabric of our everyday existence.
The theme will also examine friendship as the third space and the cornerstone around which our support networks are built. The themes that are most pertinent to women in Pakistani society will be further examined, such as education, the place of women in public, closing the digital gap, support systems, mental health, the effects of climate change, and accommodating people with disabilities.
The entire program will be printed in Braille, and access support in the form of sign language will be offered to guarantee the inclusion and participation of the deaf and disabled communities.
“Our historic WOW Festival is coming to Lahore for the first time ever, and I strongly encourage people to come and attend this wonderful free festival,” stated Maarya Rehman, Deputy Director, British Council Pakistan. The event offers a secure environment and a forum for Pakistani women to discuss and debate some of their most important issues while also acknowledging their accomplishments. It’s one of the ways we use our project, “Her Awaz. Hum Awaz,” to give them a bigger voice.
“WOW Pakistan has been a key part of WOW’s global calendar since 2016 and I am very excited to be attending this year’s festival, taking place in Lahore for the first time,” stated Jude Kelly, CEO and Founder of The WOW Foundation. WOW Pakistan is most suited to live in the City of Festivals, a place I have always admired for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. As the WOW Global network continues to expand, grow, and develop, it is more crucial than ever to create new relationships and tear down the walls dividing us.
