LONDON: Britain’s Laura Kenny, the most successful female cyclist in Olympic history, announced on Monday that it was time to “hang up the bike”.
The five-time Olympic track gold medalist, who gave birth to her second child in July, has her sights set on the Paris Games later this year.
“I always knew deep down that I would know when the time was right,” the 31-year-old told the BBC. “I was absolutely thrilled, but now it’s time for me to hang up the bike.
Kenny, who is married to Britain’s most successful Olympic cyclist Jason Kenny, won gold medals at the London 2012 Games in the omnium and team pursuit, which he repeated four years later in Rio de Janeiro.
