Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif received British High Commissioner H.E. Jane Marriott, for a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister’s House.
The Prime Minister thanked British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron for their congratulations on his re-election and said he looked forward to working closely with the UK leadership to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan and the UK have a long-standing, historic relationship and share immense political goodwill, working closely together in a wide range of areas. He said that Pakistan wished to take relations to the next level and emphasized the importance of early conclusion of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership (ESP) agreement.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s priorities, especially the importance of orientation in the economic challenges facing the country. In this regard, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment, climate, people-to-people contacts, as well as developing convergence on regional and multilateral issues of common interest.
He called for the early resumption of PIA flights between Pakistan and the UK, which would help strengthen ties between the two countries and ease the fears of the 1.6 million strong Pakistani diaspora in the UK.
He requested the High Commissioner to inform his Majesty King Charles III. his best wishes and prayed for his speedy recovery to full health. The Prime Minister also expressed the hope that His Majesty would visit Pakistan as soon as his health allowed him to travel.
