Islamabad: Federal Department of Education and Training Secretary Mohiuddin Wani said on Friday that the federal government.
He launched an initiative to improve child development and encourage schooling by providing free lunch to primary school students in public schools in Islamabad.
In an interview with a private news channel, he said that around forty primary schools are provided with healthy, high quality and hygienic food.
He said that the Allah Waley Trust and the partnership government provided mid-day meals to children and said that free meals were provided to children in primary schools under the supervision of the Federal Department of Education.
The latest acute malnutrition (AMN) analysis by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) states that 2.14 million children suffer from acute malnutrition in various parts of Pakistan.
The Secretary of State highlighted the joint efforts between the government and the trust to support the provision of meals to school children.
He reiterated the importance of ensuring that every child has adequate nutrition to support their learning and development.
He also said the program will be expanded to reach a wider student demographic and address food insecurity among school children.
Responding to questions, he said the initiative was shocking and aimed at reducing malnutrition and increasing enrollment and participation in education.
