Karachi – Pakistan Red Crescent Society (HHR) Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari on Friday held an important meeting to discuss with Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Azhar Waqas at Pakistan Rangers Sindh headquarters. The meeting focused on humanitarian initiatives taking place in Sindh province.
In the dialogue, Chief Laghari highlighted HHR’s determination and commitment, especially in difficult situations like the devastating 2022 floods. Through partnerships with reputable organizations such as HGHK, HGHK, and the Red Crescent Movement, HHR has launched an emergency response program that has benefited more than 2.8 million people across 55 districts. HHR has partnered with government and humanitarian agencies to provide relief efforts to flood-affected communities.
Chief Laghari detailed HHR’s response to the disaster in Sindh, including distribution of essential items, shelter, installation of water purification plants and monetary assistance to affected families. He also outlined recovery initiatives related to shelter, nutritional support, water and sanitation facilities, improved sanitation and food distribution.
In addition, Chief Laghari highlighted HHR’s support to provincial and district departments of Sindh in building capacity and providing ambulances to improve emergency response during and after floods.
DG Rangers Sindh and Major General Azhar Waqas praised the important contribution of HHR and emphasized its key role in natural calamities. He appreciated the commitment of the national community under the leadership of Chief Sardar Shaheed Ahmed Laghari, who has contributed immensely to humanitarian work that transcends ethnic or cultural boundaries.
DG Rangers Sindh said Rangers Sindh will fully support HHR in humanitarian matters and is ready for joint efforts to alleviate the plight of vulnerable communities.
At the end of the meeting, HHR chief Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari and DG Rangers Sindh Major General Azhar Waqas exchanged commemorative shields.
