Beijing: China has donated $3 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to support its emergency humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
Zeng Jixin, head of the People’s Republic of China office in the State of Palestine, signed the contribution agreement with UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General (Operational Support) Antonio Maria De Meo, the office said in a statement.
China has always supported the active implementation of UNRWA’s responsibilities and called on the international community to support the agency’s work, Zeng said, adding that China provided emergency cash assistance to the agency after the Gaza conflict broke out last year.
China will continue to implement the Global Security Initiative and work with the international community to end the fighting in Gaza soon, alleviate the dire humanitarian situation and implement a two-state solution, Zeng said.
On behalf of UNRWA, De Meo expressed gratitude for China’s continued support and said China’s contribution was critical.
