China and France will work together to restore the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and protect the Chinese Terracotta Warriors.
According to the Emperor Qinshihuang Mausoleum Memorial Museum in Shanxi Province, research, which is being done in collaboration with the French Foundation for Cultural Heritage Science, will focus mainly on preserving the remains of wood and clay archaeological sites.
The partnership began with the Memorandum of Cooperation for the Restoration of Notre Dame, signed in November 2019. Since then, the relevant departments from China and France have exchanged letters several times to discuss related issues.
Notre Dame and the Qinshihuang Emperor Mausoleum are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
In 2019, Notre Dame Cathedral suffered a major fire that caused extensive damage to its wooden frame. The cathedral has remained closed ever since and will reopen in December 2024.
