Wuhan, China has hosted the launch ceremony of the first Hangor class submarine built for the Pakistan Navy.
Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Naveed Ashraf attended the event held at Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group (WSIG) Shuangliu Base.
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of maritime security in view of the current geostrategic climate in the region and the contribution of the Pakistan Navy to ensure a safe and conducive maritime environment for all.
He said the Hangor class submarines, which are equipped with modern weapons and sensors, are essential to ensure peace and security in the region.
China Shipbuilding and Marine International Company Ltd. He also pointed out that this initiative will definitely give a dimension to the tested China-Pakistan friendship.
According to this report, during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan, the Pakistani government signed an agreement with the China-Pakistan Combined Shipbuilding Corporation (CSOC) to purchase eight Hangor class submarines.
According to the agreement, four submarines will be manufactured in China, while the remaining four will be manufactured at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) in Pakistan under a Technology Transfer (ToT) contract.
These submarines will be equipped with advanced weapons and sensors so that they can engage targets at an independent distance.
The opening ceremony was attended by high Chinese and Pakistani officials, including China Shipbuilding and Marine International Company Ltd. and representatives of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group participated.
Two Chinese-built Type 054 A/P frigates were commissioned by the Pakistan Navy last year.
