HUANENG: China has launched a key open laboratory aimed at advancing the energy sector by integrating meteorological research into energy exploration and development. The laboratory was established in cooperation with the Public Meteorological Service Center of the China Meteorological Administration, China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., and the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The new lab represents a major step in the development of China’s modern electric power system, which exploits the critical link between weather conditions and the power sector, said Shu Yinbiao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the academic lab. committee. This was reported by China Science Daily. Lab director Shen Yanbo emphasized the critical role of meteorology in renewable energy industries such as wind, solar and hydropower, which are heavily influenced by weather and climate patterns. The lab’s research will focus on new energy systems and technologies, including wind and solar power forecasting, weather disaster warning, artificial intelligence applications, offshore wind power, and smart operation and maintenance of the renewable energy sector.
