BEIJING: The largest Sino-Pakistani Gandhara art exhibition in the history of China, featuring more than 170 artefacts from seven different museums in Pakistan, has successfully culminated at the Shenzhen Museum.
The exhibition, titled Gandhara Heritage along the Silk Road: A Joint China-Pakistan Exhibition, debuted at the prestigious Palace Museum in Beijing last year for three months, but has evolved into a traveling exhibition with stops in Gansu due to huge interest from the Chinese audience. and finally Shenzhen according to the necessary legal procedures.
The closing ceremony of the exhibition was attended by senior Chinese officials including Wang Xudong, Director of the Palace Museum; Zeng Xianglai, director of the Shenzhen Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports; Jia Jianwei, Director of Gansu Provincial Museum; This was reported by Huang Chen, Director of Shenzhen Museum, China Economic Net (CEN).
The Pakistani side was represented by Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi along with Acting Consul General of Pakistan in Guangzhou and officials from the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing and the Pakistan Consulate General in Guangzhou.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Hashmi reflected on the significance of this initiative and highlighted the successful cooperation between Pakistan and China in organizing the largest exhibition of Gandhara art in the history of China.
The ambassador emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges and people-to-people initiatives.
He also hinted at future joint initiatives and hinted at ongoing plans for more exhibitions showcasing the shared heritage between the two countries.
In addition, he shed light on Pakistan’s rich historical heritage as the seat of the Gandhara civilization and its contributions to cultural exchange along the ancient Silk Road.
