An 18-carat gold pocket watch that former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill received as a gift from Herbert Henry Asquith in 1905 will be sold at auction later this month.
According to the BBC, this historic pocket watch is emblazoned with the hand symbol of the former British Conservative Prime Minister.
Edward Langmead, watch specialist at Dawsons Auctioneers, said he felt a “connection with history” by “seeing the past of Sir Winston Churchill”.
According to reports, the watch will be sold on May 23 at an auction house in Maidenhead, Berkshire, for between £20,000 and £30,000.
Inner case: “H. H. Asquith Xmas 1905 with thanks to Winston.” There is an inscription.
According to the auction house, the prize is believed to recognize Churchill’s “act of courage” in 1904 when he fell out with the Conservative leader over his stance on tariff reform.
Churchill was Prime Minister of England twice, from 1940 to 1945, and again from 1951 to 1955.
Langmead said: “It is a privilege, politically and personally, to have a life where you really feel connected and have the opportunity to look deeply into Sir Winston Churchill’s past.
