ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Sahir Shamshad Mirza on Thursday called on Prime Minister-elect Shehbaz Sharif, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The CJCSC congratulated the Prime Minister on his assumption of office and wished him all the best.
The meeting between the two focused on technical and security issues, the statement added.
Since he took office, the prime minister has been called by high political delegations and military officials. A day earlier, the Prime Minister also met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Wednesday.
The army commander congratulated the prime minister on his newly accepted position and expressed his best wishes. Important matters including national security were discussed in the meeting, a PMO statement said.
Issues related to Pakistan Army’s operational affairs and defense situation were also discussed, the statement added.
In a similar meeting, the prime minister met a delegation of PPP led by Zardari with party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in attendance. The PMO said the former president assured Prime Minister Shehbaz of PPP’s support to the new government and its efforts for economic stability, development and prosperity of the country.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz won the prime ministerial election after getting 201 votes against his PTI-backed opponent, Omar Ayub Khan.
Shahbaz was sworn in on Monday in a simple but impressive ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr attended by service chiefs, government functionaries and senior politicians from the ruling coalition parties and other officers.
