LAHORE: On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Climate Leadership Development Internship Program “Mera Punjab Smog Free” has been launched by taking permanent steps to improve environment in Punjab.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “We must take steps together to eliminate smog permanently. Under Smog Free Punjab initiative, young graduates will provide significant community service. Graduates who have completed their education in the last two years are eligible to apply.”
The CM added that the internees would be paid a stipend of Rs 25,000 per month under the Punjab Chief Minister Climate Development Internship Programme. It provides a platform for community service and environmental protection.
The CM said that registration for the Climate Development Internship Program can be done till July 20, 2024. Youths between the ages of 18 and 25 will receive a “Community Service Certificate” after completing the internship program. The Community Service Certificate will be awarded on behalf of the Environment Protection Department and the Punjab Higher Education Commission.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif appealed to the citizens to support the government in its efforts to solve the serious and dangerous smog problem. She urged for maximum plantation along with mitigation of smoke emissions from vehicles and factories. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif called to reduce the use of plastic and refrain from burning stubble and crop residues. She asked, “If we don’t try to make our environment clean today, when and who will.” CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “InshaAllah, the result oriented steps of the Punjab government will reduce the intensity of smog during this year.”
