PARIS: The Croatian was trailing 1-4 in the first set, but somehow found the reserves to not only save three set points, but lead Gauff to a tie-break and then win the set!
In the second set, Vekic broke Gauff’s serve in the 6th game before winning the next two games to take the match and advance to the next round.
Gauff is understandably upset by the result. She did not have the best match of her career, suffering seven double faults and failing to score a single ace. But her experience from Paris 2024 does not end – she still has a chance for a medal in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles competition.
