PESHAWAR: Commissioner Peshawar, Muhammad Zubair, has directed the district administration of the province to come up with an oriented strategy for the relief of the masses and check the artificial price hike in the holy month of Ramzan. He chaired a meeting called to check the price rise in the month of Ramzan.
He stressed the need to come up with a plan to curb profits during Ramzan as well as revise the price lists of essential items for the relief of the common man. He also directed the Assistant Commissioners to visit the markets in the morning and fix the prices of staple foods, including poultry, vegetables and fruits, keeping in view the financial condition of the people. He further directed the formation of raiding teams to visit markets during Sehri and Iftar timings.
The commissioner also ordered a price revision committee meeting to be held every fortnight and declared that the profiteers would be sent to jail for thirty days. He also asked for daily reports on the efforts made by the officials concerned in checking price hikes. All Deputy Commissioners of Peshawar Divisions attended the meeting and submitted monthly reports on their activities and plans against price gouging and hoarding.
