Islamabad: The District and Majlis Court of Islamabad on Thursday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in two cases related to the May 9 riots.
Two cases filed against PTI founder at Shehzad City Police Station were confirmed by Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir.
“The PTI founder was acquitted due to insufficient evidence provided by the prosecution,” the district and assembly courts said.
Earlier, Khan was acquitted on May 9 in two cases related to vandalism on May 15.
The acquittal order was passed by Chief Justice Sahib Bilal, who approved the former chief minister’s request to contest the case. Two cases against Khan were filed at the Khan police station in Islamabad.
Plea for release was upheld by the court due to insufficient evidence in the case against him.
A case has been registered against PTI founders for long march and violation of Article 144.
Khan and several other PTI leaders, who are behind bars in Adiala jail, are facing multiple charges in violence-related cases after their arrest on May 9.
