LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held an important Board of Governors meeting in Lahore on July 6, the first such meeting in four months.
According to local media reports, the main agenda item, a standard procedural requirement, is to approve the fiscal budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year after the previous budget expired on June 30.
The national cricket team’s recent appearance in the T20 World Cup and recent series against New Zealand, Ireland and England are not on the agenda.
The report also revealed that while the PCB’s main focus was on approving the budget, board members had the opportunity to raise additional issues at the meeting, including concerns about the team’s performance.
The PCB management is yet to conduct a comprehensive review of the team’s performance, though such an assessment is expected at the upcoming BoG meeting.
The absence of such an agenda shows a clear reluctance on the part of the PCB to engage in the problem, with insiders suggesting that the initial review has begun behind closed doors, although not directly.
The immediate focus shifts to the red-ball series against Bangladesh in August and England in October-November.
Future decisions about the direction of our national team are expected to be made after careful assessment, especially of the T20 World Cup performance. This assessment will be important in Pakistan’s preparations for next year’s events, including next year’s ICC Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
