ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Thursday said that data regulation and cyber security are top priorities of the current government.
“The Ministry of IT & Telecom is committed to the growth of the IT sector as we aim to achieve IT exports up to USD 25 billion,” she said while addressing a round table on open data flows and Pakistan’s digital economy at the Ministry of IT.
Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) executive director Jeff Paine, representatives from Google and Meta participated in the roundtable session.
Shaza Fatima said that based on the instructions of the Prime Minister, the private sector is being fully supported and encouraged in the country.
She said steps are being taken to transform Pakistan into a digital economy.
There was a detailed discussion on data localization and participants also provided recommendations on data hosting and data sensitivity.
The round table session was also attended by the authorities of Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), PTA, SECP, State Bank of Pakistan, NITB and senior officers of IT Ministry.
