Namibian all-rounder David Wiese has announced his retirement from international cricket after playing the T20 World Cup final group game against England on Saturday.
The South African-Namibian all-rounder ended his career after playing a total of 54 T20 Internationals and 15 One Day Internationals (ODIs).
Wiese, a middle-order batsman, was sent in at No.3 to chase 126 in 10 overs in his last match against England. He scored 27 off 12 deliveries with two fours and two sixes.
However, England’s Jofra Archer was dismissed for 84-3 in the second innings.
After the layoff, the 39-year-old took his helmet and stick as he left to be greeted by his teammates.
The must-win match for England was reduced to 10 overs after heavy rain. Namibia were set a target of 126 but lost by 41 runs.
Speaking about his retirement at the post-match press conference, Weisz said: “I mean, the next T20 World Cup is still two years away; I’m 39 now, so I’m not doing it in terms of international cricket. I don’t know if there’s much left.” in me.”
“Obviously, I want to play for a few more years; I feel I still have a lot to contribute and a lot to play.”
“But I just feel it’s a better place to finish a special career with Namibia. I’ve spent time with them and I’ll play my last game for them, maybe in the World Cup against the world – a class team like England seems like the time right,” he said.
