SWAT: The bodies of 3 more people buried under the debris were recovered on Sunday after a landslide fell on a house in Chatikal area of Matta Tehsil of Swat district. The death toll has reached 7 and the deceased include a head of the household , his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
According to DSP Matta Circle Habib Ullah Khan, due to heavy rain and snowfall on Saturday, the landslide fell on the house of Dabal Khan son of Sherin. As a result, the house was completely destroyed and all 11 members of the family were buried under the debris.
“In the rescue operation, Rescue 1122, volunteers of Al-Khidmat Foundation, local people and policemen reached the accident site on foot and on the first day, four persons, a woman Mst: Khazna, wife of Dabal Khan, Zubair son of Dabal Khan, Jawad son of Bacha Zada and a tiny girl Asma daughter of Aseel Zada’s dead bodies were recovered.”
He said that during the rescue operation, a woman Mst: Saleha wife of Aseel Zada, her tiny daughter Maryam daughter of Aseel Zada, Hussain son of Dabal Khan and Izhar Ullah son of Aseel Zada were taken alive and they were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Matta for medical assistance.
DSP Habibullah Khan said that the operation had to be stopped on Saturday due to darkness and heavy snowfall and was started again on Sunday morning and the bodies of three people, Mst: Khalida wife of Aseel Zada, a young girl Salma daughter of Aseel Zada and the head of the family, Dabal Khan, were also buried under the debris were taken out.
According to the locals, despite the heavy snowfall, the administration did not remove the snow from the roads. Due to which severe difficulties had to be faced in the relief operations while the injured also had difficulty in shifting to the hospital.
