ISLAMABAD: Attendant Murtaza Solangi, the federal minister of information, broadcasting, and parliamentary affairs, stated on Thursday that the public should have the authority to hold their elected officials responsible and that the democratic system was designed to serve their interests.
“Actions must be done to revitalize the democratic system, which exists only to serve the interests of the people and not the other way around,” he insisted.
At a session hosted by the Press Information Department on “Electoral Code of Conduct: Ethical Practices of Stakeholders including Media,” the minister was the featured speaker.
According to the Constitution, he added, Pakistan is a federal parliamentary democratic nation, and the elected representatives of the people must enact laws to fortify the system.
The minister stated that other nations, such as Canada, the United States of America, and Germany, were now adopting the practice of “calling elections,” which was originally established in Greece.
He went on to say that if a certain proportion of voters were dissatisfied with their elected officials, they ought to have the ability to recall them by filing a complaint with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to Solangi, every effort is being made by the caretaker government to enable the ECP to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections on February 8th, allowing the electorate to choose their preferred candidates and parties in a tranquil setting.
