Novak Djokovic is buoyed by his success after undergoing major knee surgery three weeks ago, but the seven-time Wimbledon champion says he will only play at the Grand Slam
The 37-year-old suffered a right knee injury in the fourth round of the French Open and reached the quarter-finals without surgery on June 6, putting her Wimbledon and Olympic hopes in jeopardy.
But the Serbian, who confirmed his place at the Paris Games earlier this month, posted a video of himself back in training on Instagram before returning to training ahead of his arrival at the All England Club on Sunday last week.
“If I know I can play at the maximum or at the highest level, I will play. If not, I will let others play.
“I’m taking things step by step. I’m not 100% yet, but hopefully it will be in the next few days.”
He is looking to end his drought in 2024, having won three of last year’s four Grand Slams as he hunts for his 25th major trophy.
His only loss at the Grand Slams in 2023 came at Wimbledon, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets in the title decider.
Wimbledon takes place from July 1-14.
