LAHORE: Former President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Iftikhar Ali Malik has called for sustainable peace in the region as a prerequisite for economic growth, prosperity and development for all South Asian countries.
Addressing a group of businessmen led by KP Muslim Khan Buneri on Sunday, he said that South Asia has long suffered from instability and conflict that has hampered the region’s development and potential. However, one of the main problems leading to this instability is the presence of terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan soil, which pose a major threat not only to Afghanistan but also to neighboring countries such as Pakistan.
He said that cooperation in counter-terrorism and close cooperation with regional and international stakeholders, especially Pakistan, to eliminate the breeding grounds of extremist elements and ensure the necessary stability.
In economic integration, he said, “We must adopt the initiative of economic integration in the South Asian region, and enhanced economic cooperation can create favorable conditions for peace, prosperity and development for all”.
He believes that by taking these steps, he can play an important role in creating a safer and more prosperous South Asia, which in turn will increase economic growth, improve living standards and create a brighter future for all countries. area.
