MULTAN: South Punjab School Education Secretary, Dr. Obaidullah Khokhar, said that it is pertinent to educate the new generation about the importance of clean and green environment and related issues to deal with the dangers of climate change.
The aim of introducing the Green Book as a curriculum in government schools by the South Punjab Education Department was to prepare students for a changing climate.
He expressed these views while talking to senior government officials, former South Punjab Education Minister Ghulam Farid and climate change consultant associated with an international organization Ghazanfar Ali on steps to deal with environmental threats and climate change.
On this occasion, Additional Secretary Khawaja Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Deputy Minister Saif-ur-Rehman Khan Balwani and related officials were present in the meeting.
Dr. Obaidullah Khokhar said that Pakistan is on the fifth list of countries most affected by the effects of climate change.
He suggested that awareness of the environment and its protection should be an integral part of growing children.

“Environmental education helps to effectively manage resources and supports creative thinking in children,” he added.
Secretary School Education South Punjab, while expressing his views on the teaching of Green Book among government school students and its usefulness, said that the publication of Green Book and its inclusion in government school curriculum was a revolutionary initiative.
Senior civil servant, former secretary, school education department, Punjab, Ghulam Farid, said, “It is not enough to tell children that planting trees is necessary to improve the environment; we have to make them understand why they are harmful.”
Ghulam Farid further stated that the participation of the new generation is very important to avoid the increasing effects of carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
He termed the process of publishing the book and introducing it as a curriculum in government schools as an environment-friendly initiative.
