LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Parvez Elahi, who is incarcerated in Adiala jail, suffered a broken bone due to a fall while using the toilet, it was revealed on Tuesday when a jail official submitted a medical report to a local court in Lahore.
The Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail informed the anti-corruption court in Lahore during the hearing of the case against Elahi – related to illegal recruitment to the Punjab Assembly – about the former chief minister’s health.
The deputy warden of the prison told Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta that Elahi had fallen in the washroom on March 17, causing him to fracture. Meanwhile, the indictment of the suspects who were supposed to be in court today could not be issued because the number of suspects was incomplete.
The judge summoned the suspects for further hearings and adjourned the proceedings to April 4. It may be noted that Elahi has been facing health problems for some time now. On 23 December 2023, PTI President was taken to hospital from Adiala Jail after he felt chest pain.
According to prison sources, Elahi was shifted to Rawalpindi Cardiology Institute due to heart problems. Sources added that the former CM had been complaining of chest pain since last night.
