BIRMINGHAM: England announced their squad for the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team on Friday.
Led by captain Heather Knight, the nearly month-long series will begin with a three-match T20I series followed by three ODIs.
Tammy Beaumont and Kate Cross are part of the T20Is, while Bess Heath, Freya Kemp, Lynsey Smith will play only in the ODIs.
“We are very excited to start the summer at home. It is great to start the summer of sports at home.
“I think it will not be an easy task. Nida Dar also got a new captain, some regular players, it will not be easy. We expect a tough game against them and we expect our A game and entertain the crowd,” he said.
England and Pakistan will lock horns at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium on May 11 for the first T20I. The international cricket season in England will begin with a women’s game for the first time. With more than 12,000 tickets sold for the match, 15,000 spectators are expected to attend the game.
Pakistan Women will face England for the first time here, although they previously played another match at Edgbaston in 2022. To complete the T20I series, they will face two more matches, first in Northampton on May 17 and then in Leeds Headingley on May 19.
The two teams then travel to Derby to start the ODI series on May 23. They will then meet in Taunton on May 27 and Chelmsford on May 29 in the final ODI of the series.
Pakistan Women last played England Women in a bilateral series in 2016 in England. The two teams last met again in the 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in England.
It will also be the first bilateral series between the two teams since England unilaterally pulled out of plans to tour Pakistan in 2021.
The ODI against England will be Pakistan’s last assignment in the current cycle of the 2022-25 ICC Women’s Championship, while England are scheduled to play New Zealand in late June. Pakistan are currently fifth with 16 points while England are third with 10 points in the 10-team ICC Women’s Championship.
