LAHORE: Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik addressed the ongoing challenges facing Babar Azam and stressed the need for the star batsman to remain resilient during this difficult phase.
In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Malik expressed his support for Babar and shared his thoughts on leadership roles in the team.
“Ups and downs are a part of life, especially when you are a cricketer from the subcontinent. He must remain strong during this time. I know he has a personality that accepts challenges; it’s a down time right now, but good times will come,” Malik said.
Malik also assured fans and critics that despite the recent problems with the works, Babar is not far from him.
“It’s not that he’s far from me; that’s definitely not the case. Whenever he or I need to talk, we do,” Malík explained.
Malik also shared his views on whether Babar should retain the captaincy or not.
“As far as his captaincy is concerned, my firm position is that he should only play as a player. This is my opinion. When he plays as a player, he can do wonders for the team. But in my opinion, he should stay away from management,” he added.
Finally, Malik also endorsed Fakhar Zaman as a potential captaincy candidate.
“According to today’s fearless cricket, Fakhar Zaman should be considered the white-ball captain because he has the brains and leadership skills to do so,” he concluded.
