ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Center of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted that extremely heavy rainfall over the upper basins of Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers may cause an increase in water flow in these rivers.
As a result, moderate to high floods are expected in Chenab river along with Nullahs from Chenab and Ravi rivers from August 10 to 13. In addition, the flows in the Sutlej River are subject to leakages from the Indian side, which are likely to trigger flash floods and landslides in the hilly and mountainous regions of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) next year . 24 to 48 hours, an NDMA press release said.
Rain wind/thundershowers with isolated very heavy falls are expected in Kalat, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Khuzdar , Awaran and Barkhan, rain-wind / thunderstorms with isolated very heavy falls in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Galiyat, Haripur, Buner, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Malakand, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat and Orakzai,” it said.
Parts of Punjab are likely to experience rain/thunderstorm with isolated very heavy falls expected at Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara. In addition, higher temperatures and rains may trigger GLOF incidents in the vulnerable valleys of KP and GB
