LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said on Thursday that the former cricketer will decide Babar Azam’s future as the national team’s white-ball captain.
However, Naqvi did not say who the former cricketer was.
“There is no decision on Babar Azam,” said a senior cricket official acting as home minister in Lahore.
“I am only talking to former cricketers who are interested in the improvement of Pakistan cricket.”
Naqvi also said that the former cricketer had shared a detailed report on the flaws in Pakistan cricket without naming any of them.
Pakistan failed to qualify for the Super 8 round of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 after losing to India and USA.
“People ask about surgery, but you shouldn’t make decisions when you’re upset. “Bad decisions can often be disastrous.”
Naqvi did not have much influence on the decision of the selection committee.
“Anyone who makes a wrong decision in the election committee will be prosecuted,” he said.
The PCB chairman also said that he has called the head coach Gary Kirsten and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood to discuss the performance of Pakistan’s team.
“Kirsten gave a detailed report on the Pakistan team’s performance in the T20 World Cup,” Naqvi said.
Naqvi admitted that he also saw “groupism and politics” in the Pakistan team.
He also reiterated that a player’s inclusion in the national team will be directly linked to his performance in domestic cricket.
