ISLAMABAD: FOSPAH officials emphasized importance of creating awareness about implementation of Property Rights Act, 2020, highlighting various challenges that faced by women, especially issue of property rights after marriage.
A senior official of the Secretariat of the Ombudsman for Protection from Persecution (FOSPAH) said that to deal with these problems, awareness and advocacy work is needed by the media, especially the mass media to combat gender-based violence in the tribal areas.
She said it was important to clearly address the unique challenges of women’s property rights and social empowerment, and that the women’s rights agenda should be based on the results of discussions with women at district level.
Women were deprived of property rights except those given as gifts at marriage.
She said that property rights and other economic rights offered to women in various laws of the country are very complicated and become more complicated after marriage because they are part of a new family.
She further said that the problems faced by women in the tribal areas are immense and the legacy of gender oppression is particularly pronounced. The media, philanthropic and educational institutions, and international donors should work to raise awareness of this issue.
