WANA: South Waziristan Lower (SWL) Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan formally inaugurated the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign organized by the Forest Department SWL.
Fruit trees of walnut, apple and apricot were distributed among the local farmers by three committees in the office of Forest Department Wana during the plantation campaign.
DC Nasir said that Wana is not only an agricultural area but most of the people here depend on the agriculture sector.
He said that agriculture is the backbone in reducing the economic difficulties of the people.
He said, planting fruit trees on one hand reduces the economic problems and on the other hand also increases the beauty of the area.
Azmat Wazir, Forest Officer of the Forestry Department, told the media that these fruit trees were sent to the farmers by the UN organization FAO.
He said that around 25,000 fruit trees were distributed free of cost in the formed committees and the heads of the same committees further divided them into 2000, 2000 thousands farmers and landowners on a regional basis.
Forest Officer Azmat Wazir said that the Plant for Pakistan campaign has been successfully launched and this campaign will bring about a significant change in the agriculture of the region.
