Islamabad: Folk singer Mai Dhai, a famous personality from the Tarparkar desert, has acquired a new status by being placed on a Times Square plaque in New York City.

Mai Dhai belongs to the Manganhar Muslim community in Pakistan’s Tarparkar district and the Indian state of Rajasthan known for its rich musical heritage.
Since his successful performance at the Lahooti Live Session in 2013, his unique look and soulful voice have captivated audiences worldwide. In 2015, May Day’s global profile grew further with appearances at the prestigious SXSW Music Festival and the City University of New York Alumni Center.
Dhai unexpectedly made her debut in Pakistan in 2016 in Coke Studio Season 8, starring Karam Abbas Khan and Atif Aslam in Aankhaṛli Phaṛookai and Kaadi Ao Ni.
