PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur elected KP chief minister on Friday. The Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Babar Saleem Swati, announced the results for the Leader of the House, stating that Ali Amin Gandapur of the Sunni Itihad Council received 90 votes, whereas Ibadullah Khan of the PML-N got 16 votes. Following these results, Ali Amin Gandapur became the elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On this occasion, the newly elected Chief Minister expressed his commitment to fulfilling the trust placed in him by the founder of PTI. Having been a party worker for 17 years, he emphasized his readiness to serve the people, stating that negligence would not be tolerated.
In his inaugural address to the provincial assembly, Gandapur expressed his determination to assert and secure rights for his people, mentioning that they have not been provided with a level playing field. He highlighted the registration of 9 false cases against him during the events of May 9, including unfounded FIRs against his women and leadership, demanding the closure of such FIRs lacking evidence within a week, or else those responsible would face consequences. He criticized the Election Commission for failing in its duties, calling for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and the formation of a Chief Justice Judicial Commission.
Gandapur also addressed the issue of mandate theft, deeming it treason against the Constitution, and voiced his grievances over restrictions on protests against the desecration of the Quran and for the causes of Kashmir and Palestine. He underscored the importance of peace and the need to eradicate terrorism to ensure the safety of the populace. He advocated for tax reforms, emphasizing taxation on the wealthy rather than the poor, and criticized the federal government for not providing adequate support, promising to enhance food production and electricity affordability. Lastly, he mentioned the health card initiative, attributing it to the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan, and announced its restoration in Pakhtunkhwa from the 1st of Ramadan, reinforcing the goal of establishing a welfare state.
Soon after being elected as the new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, Friday delivered a fiery victory speech, demanding the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to resign alleging his role in the stealing of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) mandate in the February 8 general elections.
Gandapur, a PTI leader who contested the polls as an independent candidate from KP, was elected as the province’s new chief minister after voting concluded in the KP Assembly. Gandapur defeated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Dr Ibadullah Khan after securing 90 votes compared to the latter’s 16.
Addressing KP lawmakers in his speech, Gandapur promised to live up to the expectations of the PTI founder.
He then spoke about his party leaders, saying that the injustice done to the PTI leader was never even witnessed under any fascism.
