Pakistan condemns the attack
FRANKFURT: Pakistan on Sunday strongly condemned the attack by a gang of extremists on its consulate in Frankfurt, Germany and the failure of German authorities to protect the sanctity and security of its consular mission premises.
The State Department’s statement comes a day after a group of Afghan nationals vandalized and attacked the Pakistani consulate, throwing stones at the building and removing the country’s flag.
The statement said the responsibility for protecting the premises and ensuring the safety of diplomats rests with the host government under the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
“We express our strong protest to the German government and urge it to take immediate action to fulfill its obligations under the Vienna Conventions,” the Foreign Office said.
Pakistan has also requested the German authorities to take immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in yesterday’s incident and hold accountable those responsible for the security breach.
