Islamabad: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Coordination and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have agreed to work together to improve Pakistan’s climate resilience.
According to a press release from the ministry, the agreement was reached at a high-level Climate Adaptation Roundtable organized by the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, for the Chairman of the Bill Gates Foundation.
The round table was held at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and was organized by NDMA Chairman Lt. General Inam Haider Malik.
Assistant Prime Minister Climate Romina Khurshid Alam briefed Bill Gates on the various sectoral impacts of climate change and said that Pakistan’s socio-economic development is greatly affected by the adverse effects of climate change.
He also explained to him about the frequent occurrence of floods, heat waves, forest fires and droughts in terms of their impact on various socio-economic sectors, especially agriculture, water, energy, health and education.
Romina Khurshid, Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, told Mr Gates: “Despite being the lowest contributor to climate change due to carbon emissions, Pakistan faces the most severe impacts of global warming and all efforts to address its impacts are necessary to protect. livelihoods and eyes livelihood is not from vulnerable communities”.
“Also, Pakistan is committed to supporting global climate action at all levels to protect the world community from the harmful effects of global warming,” he said.
Assistant Prime Minister Romina Hushid Alsm said it is important to continue the dialogue between stakeholders and international partners in Pakistan to explore ways of cooperation and mutual support in the world’s most pressing collective challenge, climate change.
He said that domestic public and private sector stakeholders have played their part in climate mitigation and adaptation, and stressed the need to develop and forge partnerships between equal and international partners.
Chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sherif praised the government’s policy to improve the country’s climate resilience, mitigation and adaptation initiatives despite limited financial resources.
However, Mr Gates said that the Prime Minister’s Climate Assistant will work with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment through its fund to provide technical and non-technical support as much as possible to launch adaptation initiatives to reduce climate change and increase the country’s climate resilience in agriculture. , water, energy, food, health and education sectors.
Meanwhile, at the roundtable, Mr. Gates held meetings with key private sector innovators in the health, agriculture, technology and climate finance sectors, and highlighted Pakistan’s private sector efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s ability to combat climate impacts. change
Representatives of the private sector and Mr. Gates also explored opportunities for cooperation in addressing the challenges of climate change in various socio-economic sectors of Pakistan, especially energy, water, food, health and education.
mr. Gates also spoke about the key aspects of Pakistan’s climate adaptation approach and the opportunities presented by science-based solutions to the challenges and challenges posed by climate change.
During the roundtable, Mr. Gates also spoke about the importance of using and using artificial intelligence (AI). He also acknowledged the challenges Pakistan faces in terms of climate risks.
