PESHAWAR: In a recent press conference, former Senator Mushtaq Ghani addressed the people of Pakistan, shedding light on the movement initiated against the government on November 13, 2023, and its future trajectory.
The movement, as explained by Ghani, is a response to the atrocities in Gaza. Over the past nine months, Israeli attacks have resulted in over forty thousand Palestinian martyrs, including sixteen thousand children. Ghani emphasized that these actions are against humanity, and the movement aims to raise awareness and demand justice for the Palestinian people.
Ghani called on the international community to take immediate action to stop Israel and protect Palestinian rights. He stressed that this movement transcends political affiliations and is a collective effort of those who value human rights.
He highlighted Pakistan’s responsibility in this cause, urging the nation to actively participate in the sit-in. Ghani shared his personal commitment, recalling his time as a student at the Islamic University and his friend Imran’s injury 20 years ago, illustrating their long-standing dedication.
During the 42-day sit-in, the government targeted the protesters, arresting Ghani’s daughter and young children, detaining colleagues, and destroying belongings. Despite these actions, the movement remained peaceful. Ghani underscored that peaceful action is their strength, and violence cannot deter their resolve.
The movement led to negotiations with the government, resulting in a six-point agreement. This agreement, made with government representatives including the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, the Interior Minister, and the federal government, was shared by Ghani. He now demands the government implement the agreement in its entirety, promising relief and assistance to Gaza and withdrawing all FIRs against supporters.
Round-table conferences with political parties and stakeholders have ensured a united stance, reflecting the nation’s sentiments and emotions. Ghani urged the government to respect these feelings and immediately write a letter to the international community, as promised.
If the government fails to implement the agreement, Ghani warned of escalating the movement across Pakistan. He called on youth, students, doctors, shopkeepers, transporters, scholars, journalists, and people from all walks of life to join the cause. The strength demonstrated through the 42-day sit-in will be mobilized nationwide if the government does not comply.
In his final appeal, Ghani demanded that General Asif Ali and the government establish hospitals and facilities in Gaza. Highlighting Pakistan’s long-standing support for Palestine, he emphasized that any compromise on this issue will not be tolerated. Ghani urged the government to abandon its silence and take concrete steps to support Palestine.
Although the sit-in has ended, the struggle continues in every city and corner of Pakistan. Ghani called on the international community, the people of Pakistan, and especially the youth to stand with them in this noble cause. The commitment to protect Palestinian rights remains unwavering, and the struggle will persist until justice is served.
