Islamabad: The government has directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to prevent the arrest of politicians or elected members of parliament.
The decision came after an important meeting between NAB Chairman and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday.
In the meeting, Speaker Ayaz Sadyk explained the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to the Chairman of NAB.
According to this SOP, if there is a question or complaint against the Parliament, the NA will report to the Speaker or the Speaker of the Senate.
Sources said that under the new SOP, political leaders and members of parliament will not be targeted or arrested during investigations to prevent political casualties.
NAB officials should refrain from making statements to the media or the public.
The revised procedure states that NAB officers can issue statements only after political leaders or parliamentarians give statements against them.
Any violation of this SOP will result in severe penalties including imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of $1 million against the officer.
