LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the government aims to provide the best healthcare facilities to every citizen.
In a meeting with the provincial health advisor Major General Azar Mehmood Kayani on Monday to discuss reforms in the health sector, he said, “I have decided to reform the health sector. The health industry is very close to my heart.”
The CM agreed to take all possible measures to complete the health project ahead of schedule, saying that work has started to upgrade all health centers, THQ and tertiary hospitals. Medicines for heart disease, tuberculosis, cancer and hepatitis are being made available in front of patients, he said. “I was very happy when a woman showed me her husband’s heart medicine,” she said.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said field hospitals and clinics on wheels are the most successful projects. In a few weeks, 1.2 million people were treated at the door. He explained that the field hospital has X-rays, free laboratory tests and EKG and free medicines, adding that 500 more clinics on wheels will be added soon.
The CM said that incentives are being given to doctors to check the shortage of doctors in remote areas and free supply of medicines has been resumed in hospitals which had been stopped.
Maryam Nawaz said that the scope of the field hospital is gradually being expanded to all districts and said that with the establishment of cardiology units and hospitals in the district, villagers do not have to move to big cities for treatment. According to him, it is important to publicize the existing health infrastructure. The existing system will be reformed and changed,” he said. Steps should be taken for modern research in medical schools and universities.
