Islamabad: The federal government is taking measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of fertilizers to farmers by importing millions of tons of urea, Minister of Industry and Production and National Food Security Rana Tanwer Hussain said while chairing a high-level committee meeting. taken to ensure the fertilizer supply chain and prices in the country.
Federal Ministers Sardar Awais Leghari and Mussadaq Malik and National Assembly members Syed Khurshid Shah, Moin Wattoo, Azhar Khan Leghari, Fatehullah Khan and Nawabzada Mir Jamal Khan Raisani attended the meeting. Federal Secretary Food Security Muhammad Fakhar-e-Alam and Federal Secretary Industries Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry also attended the meeting.
The meeting held a detailed discussion on measures related to the fertilizer supply chain and pricing. Federal Minister Rana Tanwer stressed the importance of ensuring supply of urea for the upcoming cropping season and announced that two lac metric tonnes of urea was brought in to meet the target.
The federal minister said the government is committed to stopping the illegal importation of fertilizers and ensuring fair distribution of urea at an affordable price. Black market dealers and distributors will be strictly monitored.
Rana Tanwar Hussain said that protecting the interests of farmers is a priority for the government and fertilizer companies and dealers should supply urea at the same price. He said a comprehensive strategy has been devised to control the marketing of black urea.
Rana Tanwer also urged the provinces to actively participate in the implementation of federal government measures and monitor fertilizer distributors and sellers. He said strict action would be taken against black marketeers to ensure transparency.
Federal Minister Rana Tanwer has reiterated the government’s commitment to stop the exploitation of farmers by the fertilizer mafia and said that it will not tolerate negligence in providing fertilizers to farmers.
