Karachi: Hamza Khan is the second seed in the WSF World Junior Squash Championship held in Houston, USA from July 12-23.
The draw and seeds have been announced for the 2024 World Cup competition and 2023 seed Mohamad Zakaria is the top seed.
Pakistan fielded five players in this year’s championship. Hamza, Abdullah Nawaz, M Ammad, Huzaifa Ibrahim and Anas Ali Shah won the first round according to the draw.
Abdullah Nawaz will compete against Japan’s Ren Makino, India’s Shaurya Bawa, Huzaifa Ibrahim Mohrian Baksha, Anas Ali Shah will compete against South Africa’s Luhann Groenewald in the second round.
Earlier, Pakistan’s top seed Hamza Khan won the Asian Youth Squash Championship in Islamabad.
This exciting event saw young talent from all over Asia compete fiercely to become the champion, and Hamza Khan won the under-19 category.
Hamza Khan takes on Malaysian third seed Harith Danial in the U-19 final. The 35-minute match saw Hamza dominate the field, winning 5-11, 10-12 and 9-11.
The win was a milestone in Hamza’s blue-collar career and showed his potential to become a future star in the sport.
The tournament also witnessed other notable performances from Pakistani players. Sohail Adnan showed the depth of talent among the youth in Pakistan under 13 years.
